Customer stories PetterSteel
PetterSteel is a construction company from Kuopio, Finland, established in 2008, specializing in various sheet metal products. As a pioneer in the sheet metal industry, PetterSteel embraces the new and the unknown, which has led it to become the largest Finnish manufacturer of custom metal lists. Their mission is to modernize the industry, build their customers’ success, and protect buildings. PetterSteel operates with a unique order and production management system, utilizing modern production equipment. In addition, they have built a quality system and significantly digitalized their business, bringing the company firmly into the digital age.
“We’ve been building a fully digital business management system for a long time now. Our collaboration with Hurja has been the best experience we’ve had in the market. Schedules are met because every project is backed by carefully crafted work estimates. We’ve made a giant leap in digital development, and new innovations are continuously being created.
Our business is growing, and despite this growth, we’ve been able to manage with our current finance team. Now we’re taking the system further, so we can handle even larger volumes with the same resources. One goal is fully automated invoicing.””

The software takeover and further development project began when PetterSteel had to respond quickly after their previous partner unexpectedly ceased software operations. It became necessary to find a new partner for software development. Based on previous collaborations and negotiations, PetterSteel chose Hurja as their new partner, as they needed a reliable provider capable of responding swiftly and agilely to the company’s critical development needs.
PetterSteel’s growth and success are strongly tied to digital tools, particularly their ERP system, PetterNet, which manages many of the company’s critical business processes. Developing and maintaining this system is crucial to the company’s operational efficiency and future development. The ERP system forms the core of their business and manages various key processes. The goal of taking over and further developing the system is to improve PetterSteel’s daily operations by introducing new innovative features and enhancing business through digitalization.
Key goals include streamlining operations and reducing manual work. The PetterNet system must support growth and ensure seamless data flow between systems. Furthermore, PetterSteel seeks to improve process transparency and create more efficient tools that support daily operational activities.
Developing the ERP system is not merely a technical action; it is part of a broader strategy to automate manual processes and ensure that the digital infrastructure supports the company’s continued growth and meets the demands of modern business. Another aim is to integrate all necessary data into a single system to minimize friction between different systems
When we took over the PetterNet ERP system, our focus was on making PetterSteel’s daily operations smoother. Several improvements have been made to streamline communication and significantly reduce manual work. Maintenance and support for the integrations with financial management system Procountor and the Bendex sheet metal system ensure smooth data transfer, reducing the risk of errors and speeding up processes.
As part of the development process, we held a Design Sprint workshop in the early stages of designing a new quoting tool. The goal of the workshop was to better understand PetterSteel’s needs and set clear goals for the project. This approach helped build strong collaboration and trust, ensuring that everyone understood the project’s objectives and committed to common goals. Thanks to a sharp start and close cooperation, the project has progressed flexibly, with changes being made quickly as customer needs evolve.
Further development of the ERP system has included adding features that improve the management of work orders and job cards. All necessary information is now easily accessible in one place, making workflow monitoring smoother and helping PetterSteel’s management make decisions based on real-time data. This has made workflows faster and less labor-intensive
The system has also been equipped with the Sentry monitoring tool, which tracks errors and application performance in real-time. This allows us to quickly respond to potential issues and ensure that PetterSteel’s business-critical ERP system runs efficiently and without interruption.
The next phase of development in PetterNet is the construction and automation of the quoting tool. The tool will speed up the process of creating quotes and make pricing even more accurate. Automated price lists and processes will reduce manual errors and free up resources for key business tasks.
During the collaboration, we’ve also worked on the development of other PetterSteel systems according to the customer’s needs.
“Working with Hurja has exceeded our expectations. Project leadership is clear and very precise. The tools for managing tasks are excellent, and nothing gets forgotten because everything is managed in one place. We’ve never experienced such a consistent approach before, and we want to keep Hurja as our supplier.
The implementations have been very thoroughly defined, and the end result is great. We are complete novices in this area, yet the Hurja team approaches us with understanding and patience.”
