Emmotit Oy

Emmotit-logo.

Emmotit is a new company focused on helping children recognize their strengths and self-worth, and supporting the development of emotional skills. The founder, Heidi, is a healthcare professional who became interested in emotional development and self-esteem through her own children. In her work, she encountered many young people struggling emotionally, and the desire to help sparked the idea for Emmotit and the emotion cards now sold through the company’s online store.

The story behind the emotion cards needed a strong digital home

Emmotit needed a visually distinctive website and online store that would be easy to update with content like blog posts and new product listings. The most important goal was to bring attention to the Arvokas Minä (“Valuable Me”) emotion cards – what they are, how they work, and why they were created.

The visual identity of the site had to reflect the characters and illustration style of the cards, designed by the talented illustrator Anu-Riikka Lampinen. Each Emmot character represents a specific strength, and the cards help children better understand their own behavior patterns – because when we understand ourselves, it becomes easier to understand others too.

A website and store designed with clarity and storytelling in mind

The website was built using the latest version of WordPress and the WooCommerce plugin for the online store. The technical setup was kept simple so we could focus on the design from the very beginning.

    Project workflow

    Kickoff meeting

In the kickoff meeting, we reviewed reference materials provided by the client, discussed their ideas, and clarified the tone, colors, features and content priorities for the site and store.

    UX/UI Design

Based on this input, our UX/UI designer Hanna began creating the layout using the client’s brand materials, visual guidelines and sample images. The design drew inspiration from children’s storybooks and toy stores. The final visual identity incorporated the company’s logos, fonts and color palette. A key request from the client was to showcase the emotion card illustrations throughout the site and make them an integral part of the brand’s presence. It was also essential to remember that while the products are meant for children, the customers using the store are adults.

    Draft approval and site development

Just one week after the kickoff, Hanna delivered the first layout draft – and Heidi approved it immediately. She loved the storybook feel and the way the homepage clearly highlighted the company’s mission and products (emotion cards and plush toys). Our developer Santeri then implemented the website and store quickly based on the approved design.

We also continue to maintain Emmotit’s website after the launch through our WordPress maintenance service. This includes keeping the platform and its plugins up to date, and managing separate development and production environments to ensure smooth scalability as the business grows.
